Controversy

expand While many praise Stitch for speaking up about racism in fandom, others note that they most frequently aim their criticism at fans and fandom trends which contradict their favored ships and/or characters (i.e., criticizing Reylo and Rosefinn works in particular while being a Finnrey and Finn fan). Other marginalized fans object to them accusing them of being “Pickmes” and “having internalized racism”.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822002953/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/407392.html?thread=2408243040 Comment on a thread on Fail Fandom Anon titled “Fandom Venting”]</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20200122112529/https://twitter.com/stitchmediamix/status/1219940862865674240 "We are clearly at different stages in our journey towards unlearning internalized ish considering that they're people who'll try to dunk on me so nonblack fans feel less what... threatened? Their “Weaponized White Womanhood” essay has been criticized for incompleteness and a lack of intersectionality.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822013414/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/408609.html?thread=2415531041 Thread from FFAnon.] [https://web.archive.org/web/20210822013749/https://mobile.twitter.com/stitchmediamix/status/1218181039060848641 One of the tweets within.]</ref>

Others have criticized them for siding with bigoted commentators when they happen to be mocking targets such as Reylos.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822005852/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/444353.html?thread=2648754625 “Why is Stitch defending that shitty “Shit Reylos Say” twitter and acting like they really care about “calling out racism” when it's run by a bigoted dude? They are also of the opinion that Archive of Our Own should be filtered for racist fanworks, although they are unclear about how this should be done, which some comment is most likely to impact kinky marginalized creators first. <ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822010610/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/439198.html?thread=2613392542 A FFAnon thread on the comment.] [https://web.archive.org/web/20200723184826/https://twitter.com/stichomancery/status/1285950450387353600 The tweet in question.]</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822011331/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/359320.html?thread=2091058072%23cmt2091058072 FFAnon thread,] [https://web.archive.org/web/20191017050816if_/https://twitter.com/nutheadgee/status/1105354396186144769 Nuthead's tweet] and [https://web.archive.org/web/20191017050815/https://twitter.com/stichomancery/status/1105523071547527169 Stitch's tweet.]</ref> In particular, they have been criticized for advocating the harassment of authors of works which they find objectionable:<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20200611202957/https://twitter.com/stichomancery/status/1271175238697525248 Tweet]</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822014443/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/431566.html?thread=2564813774%23cmt2564813774 FFAnon thread.]</ref><ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20210822015030/https://fail-fandomanon.dreamwidth.org/431979.html?thread=2569286251 FFAnon commentary] and [https://web.archive.org/web/20200616130237/https://twitter.com/stichomancery/status/1272875111574638593 the tweet in question.]</ref> Currently, the only guaranteed way to ensure the removal of racist fanworks on the AO3 is to make having the story up no longer worth it for the author. As in, by making their online lives hell.
