DashCon is a fan convention catering primarily to users of the blogging service Tumblr, with a particular emphasis on fandoms that had developed among them.

First held over the weekend of July 11, 2014 in Schaumburg, Illinois, the inaugural convention [[http://observationdeck.io9.com/when-fandom-falls-apart-dashcon-edition-1604303148|quickly]] [[http://baltimorepostexaminer.com/dashcon-convention-doomed-start/2014/07/24|became]] [[http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-bloggers-mock-stumbles-at-tumblr-convention-20140717-story.html|infamous]] for [[http://www.craveonline.com/lifestyle/tech-and-gadgets-news/724235-embarrassing-tumblr-convention-dashcon-branded-a-scam-after-raising-17000|allegations of mismanagement among organizers]]; an alleged, abrupt demand by the hotel for an [[http://comicsbeat.com/ultimate-when-a-con-is-crap-dashcon-2014-solicited-people-for-money-to-pay-the-hotel-bill-while-the-con-was-running/|upfront payment of cash]] for use of its facilities; and [[http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2014/07/14/the-worlds-first-tumblr-convention-was-a-disaster|celebrity guests]] being [[http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20140716/news/140718973/|forced to drop out]] of the convention after they were informed by the hotel that they would be responsible for paying for their rooms. A small ball pit placed in one of the halls [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/dashcon|became]] a [[http://www.dailydot.com/geek/dashcon-ball-pit-meme/|meme]] after organizers offered attendees, along with raffle and concert tickets, an "extra hour" in it as reimbursement for a cancelled panel.

Despite the issues faced by the inaugural edition, organizers announced plans to hold another edition for 2015 but As of August 2014 the convention's official website is disabled and its Twitter and Tumblr feeds are dormant. In September 2014 [[http://www.dailydot.com/geek/dashcon-emoti-con-internet-convention/|the Daily Dot wrote an article]] stating that DashCon appears to have been replaced by Emoti-Con. The writer noted that the two conventions were nearly identical in their themes, that Emoti-Con was to be held in the same venue that the second DashCon was to be hosted at, the Emoti-Con website contained much of the same text as the DashCon website, and that it was being organized by one of the co-creators of DashCon.

On Tumblr, the main compiler of Dashcon news as it was happening was [[http://hythe.tumblr.com/tagged/dashcon|Hythe]], who ultimately posted eight pages' worth. Most of it was reblogs with updates and corrections, but she also conducted original interviews with [[http://hythe.tumblr.com/post/91827173957/interview-with-dashcon-artist|an artist]] and [[http://hythe.tumblr.com/post/91800502967/interview-with-dashcon-volunteer|a volunteer]] who attended. Her Dashcon tag also still contains the [[http://hythe.tumblr.com/post/91887275412/dashcon-masterpost-by-a-vendor|"Dashcon Masterpost by a Vendor"]] (the OP's Tumblr has since been deleted): //"I had someone ask me if I could just give them something for free because they wanted an item but still had to eat."//
