Most commenters don't use IPA and just refer to the pronunciations of other English words or use English pseudo-phonetic spelling, leaving everyone more confused than when they started. (For the record, [[https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pasta|according to Wiktionary]], in the US, New Zealand, and for some Canadian speakers, "pasta" is /ˈpɑːstə/. In the UK and for other Canadian speakers, it's /ˈpæstə/. The Italian pronunciation is neither: it's /ˈpasta/.)
